GIY is inviting community groups nationwide to apply for start-up funding to set up 20 new cottage markets across the country.

According to the organisation, a cottage market differs from a farmers’ market in that it is all about bringing hobbyists and amateur producers from a local area together to showcase their hidden skills and talents in areas such as growing, sewing or baking.

Ulster Bank and The Ireland Funds are set to support the initiative to the tune of €65,000 over the next two years, as GIY aims to put homemade, homegrown food and craft back at the centre of Irish communities.

Community groups are invited to apply online via here by 3 March in order to avail of funding, as well as a tailor-made training programme.
