The chair of Glanbia, Henry Corbally, said that the co-op has been in contact with the Revenue Commissioners and is working on a position on the Kerry patronage shares issue. He was speaking at a talk organised by Waterford Macra and AIB in Dungarvan on Wednesday night.

“We have always been in contact with the Revenue on this. When the share spin-outs were done originally, we were in contact with the Revenue. We didn’t just ignore that.

He did not rule out the possibility that the tax liability Kerry shareholders face could apply to some Glanbia shareholder members.

“I can’t guarantee anything and we have always said, during the spin-outs and otherwise, that people’s taxation is their own affairs and they have to keep their own affairs in order. However, that’s not to say that we didn’t have a position as regards Revenue. We had a position with Revenue; we can go back and talk to them about that and inform our members afterwards.”
