Glanbia Ireland has lodged a planning application for an extension to its GAIN feed mill in Portlaoise.
The proposed development consists of a five-storey building with intake, bins, a blending line and a pelleting line. It would involve demolishing part of an existing warehouse and store, altering existing roads and signage and extending the car park.
Laois County Council will receive submissions until 29 October and is due to return a decision by mid-November.

A spokesperson for Glanbia said that the planning application was part of normal business planning and the company had not yet made a final decision to go ahead with the extension.
Gluten-free products
Glanbia already operates a feed mill in Portlaoise and opened a new food-grade plant at the site in 2014 to produce gluten-free oat products for the European and US markets.
It also secured planning permission last week for a new drier to double the capacity of its Belview milk processing plant in Co Kilkenny.
