Glanbia has announced its 2016 grain prices with a price of €122/t plus €10/t for co-op members for feed barley and €132/t plus €10/t for co-op members for wheat.
Glanbia has confirmed that it has taken in 190,000t of grain from harvest 2016. As well as the base price, Glanbia is offering a €10/t co-op member support across all grain crops.
Glanbia chair Henry Corbally said the co-op is moving towards more niche markets to deliver the highest price for farmers.
“Our strategy for a number of years has been to move as much grain as possible out of commodity markets and into premium niche categories. Over 40% of our total intake now attracts some level of premium or bonus; this is worth around €2m in total to growers, compared to the equivalent non-contracted grains. This is a far higher proportion of overall grain contracted than any other merchant in the country,” he said.
