Almost 4,000 farmers are still waiting for payment under href="http://www.farmersjournal.ie/tag/glas">GLAS I and II.

Some 277 farmers received €1.6m in the latest payment run, according to the Department of Agriculture.

This leaves 3,988 farmers still waiting for payment.

To date, payments have been made to 32,821 farmers, equating to €116,662,181, Department officials confirmed.

Just over 10% of all farmers in GLAS I and II remain unpaid, a position which IFA deputy president Richard Kennedy described as “totally unacceptable”.

Commitment

Kennedy said that at a meeting of the Farmers’ Charter of Rights Monitoring Committee in Portlaoise last week, a commitment was given by the Department of Agriculture that all GLAS payments would be made by the end of April.

“The delay has caused severe cashflow difficulties on the thousands of farms affected and the commitment given to make payments by the end of April must be delivered on as otherwise the credibility of the scheme will be in question by many farmers,” he added.

At the same meeting, it was announced that GLAS 2016 balancing payments of 15% would be issuing in late May when all 2016 inspections have been completed.
