A wonderful tribute to Joe Mac Night was held in the Silver Springs Hotel in Cork last week. Several hundred friends and supporters of the legendary Joe McCarthy of The Dixies thronged the venue for the celebrations. Among those taking part were Brendan Grace, Art Supple, Gina, Pat Lynch and Keith and Lorraine McDonald, as well as a number of local characters.

The death took place last week of Syd Shine, Athlone. Syd (94) had a life-long connection with the music business and fronted Syd and The Saints during the showband era. He had a great passion for the River Shannon and lived on a barge there for some years. He also owned The Crescent Ballroom in the town at one stage. Syd will be fondly remembered by his many friends.

Adrian Ryan from Carlow has been to Stephen Smyth’s Studio in Co Down where he recorded his new single, Tell My Girl I’m Leaving, which was composed by David Oliver.

David Maguire from Ballinasloe has announced he is taking a break from the country music scene on health grounds. David released a country album last year and also did a video shoot for his version of Sunday Morning Coming Down. He is wished a full and speedy recovery.

Fermanagh singer Anthony McBrien has penned a song all about Conways 3, a pub and lounge familiar to most Irish country performers in recent years. The pub, located in Burnt Oak, Edgeware, London, is run by well-known Kilkenny native and singer, Seamus Moore.

Another Way To Cry is the new country single from Donna Marie who hails from Enniscorthy. Donna Marie has performed guest spots with various artists in recent years, including The Sawdoctors, Derek Ryan and The Fureys.
