Gulfood is one of the biggest food exhibitions in the world and it is being held in Dubai this week.

It is expected that 100,000 people will visit the showcase event between 26 February and 2 March.

Of the 100,000 buyers attending, 40,000 will be from local markets and the remaining 60,000 from international markets.

The Irish presence at Gulfood has increased from 13 companies last year to 21 this year.

Some of the 21 include Kepak, Ornua, LacPatrick, Ashbourne Meats, Dairygold, Glanbia, Dawn Meats, Green Isle Foods and The Nestbox.

Green Isle win

Meanwhile, Co Kildare-headquartered Green Isle Foods became the first Irish company ever to be nominated, and win, an award at the international event.

The company scooped the award for best halal product range for its Goodfella’s halal frozen beef pizza, which is on sale across the Gulf states.

The halal beef is processed in Ashbourne Meats and Kildare Chilling.
