Legendary American country singer and songwriter Tom T Hall has been bereaved by the death of his wife, Dixie. She died in Nashville at the weekend. Dixie (80) was born and raised in England and later moved to work in Nashville where she met the man from Olive Hill, Kentucky. Miss Dixie, as she was affectionately known, penned numerous bluegrass songs and had an abiding interest in country music.

John Farry still finds time to do the occasional bit of songwriting along the way. The busy manager of Nathan Carter has penned one of the numbers, Memories of Angels, on Niamh McGlinchey’s debut album.

Condolences are tendered to Castleblayney showbiz manager Kevin McCooey on the death of his wife Marian last week, following a short illness. Marian was a native of Ardara, Co Donegal, and was predeceased by her mother Bridget Gildea just five weeks ago. Many people from the country music fraternity attended the funeral ceremonies.

Lonely Nights is the latest single from Dave Lawlor. The big ballad was produced and arranged by John Byrne. The Tullamore man is in demand for guest spots and also performs on a number of the overseas music promotions in Spain and Portugal.

Glen Campbell’s final song, I’m Not Gonna Miss You, from the soundtrack of the documentary film Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, has been nominated for an Academy award. The song has been included in the nominations for the best original song at the Oscars.

The death took place last week of Jean Kane, Drumsum, Co Derry. She was mother of Kathy Kane, the Antrim-based country singer who was among the award winners at the Country Sound, Phil Mack Country Show awards night.
