The Lodge at Ashford Castle will host a concert on 9 October. The show will support the children’s cancer charity, Hand in Hand, in the West of Ireland, as well as Madrá, a volunteer dog rescue venture.

Billie Barry, who died in Dublin last week, was grandmother of Vicky Kenny, one of our Irish Country Sound award recipients last March. She organised one of the best-known stage schools for children in Dublin and was a legend in that field. She was mother to David, Pat, Joan and Lorraine, and is survived by her family circle and many friends.

Billy Garvin from Roscommon has released his version of Mexican Joe. Billy, a life-long admirer of the music of Jim Reeves, decided to record the classic on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of the Texan legend.

Vincie Soye and Mary were among the large gathering at the Mick Flavin and Friends weekend in Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar, last week. Mick has recently recorded some of Vincie’s songs.

Tom Geraghty will present his last show on Galway Bay Radio on 19 October. The Headford man has hosted a weekly programme on the station for the last 16 years. Tom has been very supportive of Irish country and traditional music during that time. Best of luck Tom.

The Walls of This Old Honky Tonk is the new single from Karl Kirkpatrick. It was recorded in Fast Trax Studio in Convoy, Co Donegal, and is an uptempo traditional country number.
