Most counties have witnessed a reduction in the number of applicants to the Young Farmers Scheme this year. In total, there were 8,613 applicants in 2016, a decrease of 5% on the number of applications last year.

The Young Farmers Scheme was introduced in 2015 as a measure to support young farmers under the reformed Common Agricultural Policy.
