Total registrations across beef, dairy, pedigree were all down in on the same week in 2015, along with calf and animal event registrations.

The largest decline in comparison with 2015 was in the total number of beef birth registrations. In 2015, 11,327 calves were registered, whereas that number fell to 11,025 for 2016.

As it stands, the total number of dairy births on the ICBF database is 1,234,276 and the total number of beef births on the database is 742,572.

Results

The number of AI handheld serves is rising year on year. Uptake was at 690,814 in 2015, but the number of these inseminations grew significantly this year to 717,441.

BVD test results are continuing throughout the year. Since January, the ICBF has processed over 2m results, with almost 49,000 of these coming in the past week. Since the introduction of the voluntary phase four years ago, over 9m results have been processed.

Friday 29 July is the final deadline for all genotype samples and calf data from 2015 under the Beef Data and Genomics Programme.

Beef genomic test proofs have been updated from June’s proofs, with changes made to the following areas:

  • A change to the methodology used to make the proofs.
  • New data, genotypes and pedigree.
  • Changes to how maternal weaning weight and cow milk score are worked into the new milk predicted transmitting ability.
  • Milk results

    The total number of milk recordings has decreased by 2.4% since 2015, while the total number of herds recorded since the beginning of this year is just over 6,000.
