The quality of cattle on offer was very high, which meant the plainer cattle on offer were a little slower to sell.

The cull cow ring saw a good trade for all heavy and fleshed cows that were suitable for slaughter or a quick finish.

Prices for these ranged mainly from €1.80/kg to €1.95/kg, with young cows and heifers and well-conformed cows making well over €2/kg.

Feeding cows, particularly older and plain types, were a little easier than recent weeks. Prices of these ranged mainly from €200 to €400 over the weight for continentals.

Very poor quality, thin cows sold for a little along with the weight.

This 780kg Simmental cross cull cow born March 2013 sold for €1,190 (€1.53/kg).

This 710kg Charolais cross cull cow born March 2010 sold for €1,070 (€1.51/kg).

Heavy, short-keep and well-fleshed bullocks sold mainly from €700 to €800 along with the weight. Those with a little less conformation but good weight were a good trade also and sold for close to €680 along with the weight.

Bullocks

Store bullocks from 500kg to 550kg sold mainly from €600 to €700 over the weight for average-quality types, while U grades made over €750 along with the weight.

This 450kg Limousin cross bullock born April 2016 sold for €1,130 (€2.51/kg).

This 595kg Limousin cross bullock born April 2016 sold for €1,375 (€2.31/kg).

This 475kg Parthenaise cross bullock born February 2016 sold for €1,100 (€2.32/kg).

This 550kg Charolais cross bullock born May 2016 sold for €1,285 (€2.34/kg).

This 485kg Charolais cross bullock born April 2016 sold for €1,250 (€2.58/kg).

Stores from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from €520 to €650 over the weight, with top-quality types making over €700 along with the weight.

Heifers

There was a little bit more bite in the heifer ring this week also, with plenty of buyers active for all types.

Heavy heifers suitable for a short-keep finish or those that were slaughter-fit were a very good trade and sold mainly from €700 to €800, with top-quality heavy types making over €850 along with the weight.

Stores from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €600 to €700 over. Types from 400kg to 500kg made from €500 to €600 over, with top-quality types making over €650 along with the weight.
