Topping the sale at £2,800 was a freshly calved heifer Killane Fieldman Pretty. The heifer, which was exhibited by JA and SD Perry, is a Killane Fieldman (EX) daughter and from the dam Killane Zenith (EX).

The sale by Taffee Auctions was the first monthly dairy sale to be held in Dungannon mart and was made up of about 40 freshly calved Holstein heifers from a range of sellers, and then about 50 freshly calved Holstein, Friesian and Swedish Red heifers from the dispersal sale of Jim Morrison and James Cleland’s Inch herd.

Overall, most lots met a good trade on the day, with the best dairy cattle on offer making strong prices. The first lot in the ring was a freshly calved Holstein heifer Sterndale Colts Jodie Red (PLI £89) which made £2,500, one of the top prices on the day.

In the heifer show before the sale, judge Robert Stewart placed GT and AM Patton’s heifer Corrowcroft Balisto Ruby (PLI £346) as overall champion. The 25-month old heifer is 25 days calved, is yielding 31 litres, and made £2,000 in the sales ring.

The top price from the Inch dispersal sale was 3,650 guineas for a December 2014 born 88% British Friesian bull. Inch Theo (PLI £358) is a Deanfate Tarquin son and is from the dam Inch Blackdale Daphine.

Top female price from the Inch herd was £2,500 for Inch Glen Daphine 8 ET (VG88) (PLI£245). The fourth lactation cow last calved on 27 August 2016 and is currently yielding 39.6kg.
