Declan, who is from Ballyglass, Kinockcrochery, started lambing in the first week of January.

He has 50 pedigree Belclare ewes and 70 commercials, as well as 15 pedigree Charolais which have just been introduced to the farm.

"The pedigrees have to come in the first week of January because of the premiere sales," he told the Farmers Journal. "I hope to be finished lambing by mid-March."

He aims to have at least two lambs per ewe.

"The pedigree ewes are known for fertility and proficiency," he said. "Around 1.9 lambs per ewe will be going out to field."

It'll be a busy few weeks on the Miley farm, with 25 sucklers cows due to calve as well. Declan also works off-farm.

"I just to this to raise stress levels," he added.
