The cow ring was met with another firm trade.

Continental feeding cows from 600kg to 650kg sold mainly from €450 to €550 along with the weight, with Friesian feeding cows making around €300 over. Continental cull cows carrying flesh sold from €1.70/kg to €1.90/kg, with some choice lots making over €2/kg.

This Friesian cow, born 2012 and weighing 615kg, sold for €900 (€1.46/kg).

This Limousin cow, born 2009 and weighing 620kg, sold for €1,110 (€1.80/kg).

Bullocks

Heavy bullocks were another strong trade, with plenty of finishers snapping up good-quality types. Bullocks over 600kg sold mainly from €700 to €800 over the weight, similar to last week.

Lighter bullocks from 500kg to 600kg were a solid trade and sold from €600 to €700 along with the weight for average-quality continental types.

Better-quality bullocks sold for more than €800 along with the weight. Lighter stores continue to be met with firm demand from grass buyers.

Those from 400kg to 500kg sold mainly from €580 to €700 along with the weight for average to good-quality types.

This Limousin cross bullock, born August 2016 and weighing 430kg, sold for €1,005 (€2.34/kg).

Weanlings

Buyers were very active for weanling bulls also.

Those from 300kg to 400kg sold from €2.50/kg to €2.70/kg for average-quality Charolais and Limousin types, while top-quality cattle sold for more than €3/kg. Shippers continue to source bulls under 300kg for the Turkish trade.

Heifers

There was an improved trade for light heifers. Those under 300kg were a very strong trade, especially for fancy types.

Prices ranged mainly from €2.70/kg to €2.80/kg for these, with top-quality lots selling for more than €3.10/kg.

Heavy heifers continue to be low in numbers, but where on offer, prices are very strong. Heifers from 500kg to 600kg sold mainly from €1,150 to €1,450.

This Simmental cross heifer, born February 2015 and weighing 590kg, sold for €1,475 (€2.50/kg).

This Charolais cross heifer, born March 2015 and weighing 565kg, sold for €1,370 (€2.42/kg).

This Limousin cross heifer, born May 2015 and weighing 445kg, sold for €1,175 (€2.64/kg).

Lighter store heifers from 400kg to 500kg saw prices range mainly from €2.30/kg to €2.50/kg for average-quality types.

Heifers from 300kg to 400kg sold mainly from €750 to €950 depending on weight, with top-quality types making well over €1,100.

These four Hereford cross heifers, born March 2016 and weighing 185kg on average, sold for €490 each (€2.65/kg).

This Charolais cross heifer, born July 2016 and weighing 275kg, sold for €800 (€2.91/kg).

This Limousin-cross heifer, born June 2015 and weighing 315kg, sold for €850 (€2.70/kg).
