The show is hugely popular with us Irish, so we decided to give a few tips to get the best out of the week.

The show is open to the general public on Tuesday 10 -14 November with two preview days for the trade and press beforehand. For first-time visitors, the size and awe factor of machines is the first thing that hits you. To put it in perspective, this show has 27 halls, with each hall about 3-4 times the size of the exhibition arena in Punchestown. It is almost likely that one hall at Agritechnica could hold all the machines exhibited at this year’s Ploughing. In other words, it is a big show.

In the region of 450,000 people will visit Agritechnica. The event is used by many machinery manufacturers as a launching platform for their new and improved products. This includes Irish manufacturers and around 13 from both sides of the border that will attend. Hall 27 is where many of the Irish manufacturers are located.

A lot of walking

The best advice is to travel with comfortable shoes, as there will be a lot of walking. The halls themselves are warm, with no need for bulky jackets. Checking the weather for the event, it looks like it is similar to here: mild with showers.

Heavy traffic can be expected on entry and is important to figure out which entrance you arrived from. You can reach the Exhibition Grounds directly via Autobahn/motorway A2 and A7 and then A37 and the Messeschnellweg (exhibition expressway, B3/B6).

The train links are very good, the Exhibition Grounds can be reached from Hannover city centre by taking the suburban train (Stadtbahn) U8 or U18.

It is a very worthwhile exercise to plan the machines and the places to visit, study the hall plan and the a href="http://www.farmersjournal.ie/WEBFILES/000/193/433/283049-193433.pdf">exhibitor listing to plan the best route. Doubling back on tired legs is not a great idea.

If you plan your visit well, it is a great show and for a machinery fan, it is the ultimate place to be.
