The largest wind farm in Ireland was officially opened in Meenadreen in south west Donegal on Thursday.

The 95-megawatt wind farm has 38 turbines standing 115m high with 90m rotor diameter.

Renewable energy firm Energia developed the €145m project over two years. It was completed and began generation in March.

Energia has said that the wind farm has the capacity to power 50,000 homes and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 100,000t annually.

The development has also been used by Energia to develop a pilot project for inspecting turbines with drones.
