Irish Farmers Journal breakfast news: Wednesday 30 December
In the news today: 80 farmers now receiving fodder supplies, impressive views of sowing corn in Kildare and Ciaran Lenehan explains why you shouldn’t be afraid to mix it up when it comes to breeding
The four weather warnings of yesterday (Tuesday) are still in place, with the orange wind warning for counties Wexford, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford having been extended to 1pm today. The status yellow wind warning for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Limerick and Tipperary has also been extended until 1pm today. It was originally due to end at 6am this morning. There have been no extensions to the orange and yellow rainfall warnings, both of which are due to end at noon today.
Rainfall totals of 40mm to 70mm are forecast to fall over the 24 hours between Tuesday noon and Wednesday noon while the orange rainfall warning is in place in for Wicklow, Galway, Cork, Kerry and Waterford. And those counties subject to the yellow rainfall warning are forecast to experience totals of between 25mm and 40mm over the 24 hours between Tuesday midday and Wednesday midday.

It will become extremely windy again for a time this morning with gale force and squally southerly winds veering westerly. However, winds will moderate later this morning and in the afternoon. Heavy rain will continue to clear eastwards to showers this morning, but some showers will be heavy or possibly thundery in places but will become more scattered during the afternoon with sunny spells developing. There could be some wintry showers falling as sleet or snow on higher ground in the west and north.
