The Dangan meal and nut dispenser system was created to cater for a problem on the farm – mainly replacing the old feeders in the existing 35-unit milking herring bow parlour. The core innovation lies in fabrication of discrete arrays of metal nanoelectrodes used as sensors on silicon chips. These nanowire sensor devices can exhibit a 100- to 1,000-fold increase of sensitivity compared with larger traditional electrodes. They are now being used to detect BVD, PI3 and IBR in bovines by measuring a droplet of bovine blood with these sensors.
