The Irish Malt Growers is a group formed in spring 2015 in the wake of protests regarding the poor harvest price for malting barley. The group will be hosting a meeting tonight, open to all in a bid to represent a wider grain community.

“The group feels to date that the representation for the grain sector has been very poor,” Irish Malt Growers said in a statement. ”The group wants to offer the opportunity to build a strong organisation that specialises in the needs of the grain grower.”

Issues to be discussed on the night include the future of the grain industry for farmers, lack of investment and support for grain growers and how best these issues can be addressed going forward.

The meeting takes place tonight (12 January) in Clanard Hotel, Athy, Co Kildare, at 7.45pm and is open to all interested parties.
