The number of responses to the CAP consultation continues to surge with less than two weeks to go until it closes on 2 May. By Wednesday afternoon, 120,285 replies had been received in Brussels.

Of these, just 270 have been received from Ireland or 0.22% of all responses which is less than a quarter of one percent.

This is one of the lowest response rates received from any EU member state with even the UK which will have no participation in the next CAP, submitting 362 responses or 0.3% of all responses received so far.

Even tiny Luxembourg has submitted more responses than Ireland, with 344 replies by yesterday.

Strong Franco–German input

At the other end, Germany is the country that has taken greatest interest in the post-2020 CAP with 64,184 replies in so far, which is 53.4% of all submissions. France has contributed 21,020 replies to date, which is 17% of total replies.

Based on these responses we can expect a strong Franco–German input to the shape of the next CAP.

There is still time for a substantial Irish response as the consultation doesn’t close until Tuesday 2 May.

The consultation can be found here.
