The closing date is approaching for the European Economic and Social Committee autumn traineeship which begins on 16 September 2015 and take place in Brussels.

The EESC offers traineeships to university graduates twice a year for five-month periods.

The EESC, which describes itself as “a bridge between Europe and organised civil society”, is a consultative body of the EU – an advisory assembly composed of social employers’ organisations, trade unions and representatives of various other interests.

The traineeships offer an opportunity to learn about the EESC’s roles and activities and to acquire professional experience. Trainees on this programme will receive a maintenance grant.

In addition, the EESC can offer short-term unpaid traineeships from one to three months to university graduates or university students who are required to complete their degree by undertaking a period of in-service training (short-term traineeship). There is no age limit for applicants for the unpaid traineeships.

The closing date for applications is 31 March.

Interns

Some organisations are also currently looking for interns. The European Newspaper Publishers’ Assocation is looking for a native English-speaking intern to provide communications support at the assocation’s offices in Brussels for up to six months from March/April 2015. The intern will be involved in external communications and organising events. The deadline for application is 30 March.

Tomorrow (Friday 20 March) is the closing date for applications for a policy and communication intern position in the OpenForum Europe office in Brussels. OpenForum Europe (OFE) is a not-for-profit industry organisation which was originally launched in 2002 to accelerate and broaden the use of Open Source Software (OSS) among businesses, consumers and governments.

The Institute for European Environmental Policy, which is based in London, also has an internship position, the deadline for which is 23 March. The work will involve both contributing to a variety of projects concerned with the development, implementation and evaluation of EU biodiversity policy, and other related initiatives. Some of the activities currently being undertaken by this organisation include work related to the implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives, the development of “No Net Loss of Biodiversity” policy, and the financing of biodiversity conservation measures.
