Song and Story is the title of the brand new concert show from one of Ireland’s foremost entertainers, Johnny McEvoy. The renowned folk and country singer will shortly embark on a 25-date concert tour of Ireland, bringing his unique homely touch to his carefully chosen repertoire.

The man who burst on to the scene during the ballad era of the mid-1960s with a song called Muirsheen Durkin that topped the Irish charts, has been an enduring presence on the circuit in the decades since then.

McEvoy has retained an incredible core loyalty of dedicated fans throughout the years. It is truly testament to his special appeal that he can still charm and entrance audiences. While these may be right out of the ballad tradition, the influence of one of his special idols, Hank Williams, is never far away.

Back in the mid-1970s, Johnny recorded what many believe is the most authentic tribute album of Hank Williams’ songs ever done in this country. Johnny McEvoy Sings Hank Williams is now a collector’s item on vinyl. Johnny captures the intense longings of the heart as so beautifully sang by the brilliant Alabama singer and songwriter who died at the age of 29.

The power of the song, long before the arrival of the accompanying video, is still the gospel from which Johnny McEvoy draws his strength. The second in the series of his most recent recordings, The Basement Sessions – Volume II, has just gone on release. Here, again, the classic qualities of one of our most talented home-grown artists is there for all to see.

McEvoy crosses so comfortably between the ballad tradition of The Boston Burglar, Long Long Before Your Time, Sullivan’s John, and a host of other such songs.

He comes from the era of The Clancy Brothers and knows all too well the power of the spoken word when it comes from the heart and is laced with conviction. Liam Clancy could hold an audience spellbound.

Johnny’s background on each song gives its name to the title of this tour, Song and Story. He is, of course, one of Ireland’s foremost and accomplished songwriters, with numerous classics to his name.

Johnny has just completed shows in Naas, Macroom and Rosscarberry. Followers can look forward to seeing him at the following locations during the month of November:
