As reported earlier this month in the Irish Farmers Journal, the surge in milk production slowed down in July, with 788.3m litres collected in the Republic of Ireland – a 2.5% increase on July 2015.

After the surge observed at the start of the year with 30-40% year-on-year increases from January to March and a correction in April (-3%), milk supply now seems to tend towards stabilisation, with a 6.2% increase in May and 4.4% in June.

July fat content was in line with last year at 3.92%.

Milk imports were up at 56.7m litres (+3.8%).

The increase in supply translated into moderate production growth across all categories of manufactured dairy products, except for butter, which saw a drop in production for the second straight month.

Don’t miss next week’s Irish Farmers Journal for our estimate of Irish milk supply in August.
