The sale of a 140-acre residential farm at Ballynagale, Taghmon, Co Wexford, has just been concluded. The property was brought to the market in the backend of last year by private treaty through selling agent David Quinn from Quinn Property, Gorey and Carnew. From the outset it became clear that active interest was imminent.

Just a mile and a half from Taghmon village, Ballynacale is the type of property that has been carefully nurtured by its owners. Home to a commercial Limousin and Angus suckler herd for the past 13 years, the property has been maintained to a high standard with significant improvements made to the house and yard during that time.

Large blocks of land don’t frequently arrive on the market in south Wexford, making this particular sale quite unique.

Ballynagale came to the market with a bungalow residence, an extensive range of farm buildings and 140 acres of grazing ground, all of which were guided in the region of €1.4m to €1.5m. However, the owners also gave the option to buy the farm as a going concern, which included circa 41 suckler cows and followers, an extensive range of machinery, and entitlements.

With the exception of one local person, all the interest originated from outside the county during the course of the selling campaign. In the end, it’s believed that a farmer from the Kildare/Dublin border bought lock, stock and barrel for an undisclosed private figure. It’s thought, however, the residence, farmyard and land made in the region of the €1.4m to €1.5m guide price, while the cattle, machinery and entitlements sold for an additional private figure.

With the exception of half an acre situated across the road, the land is set out in one circa 139.5-acre block and is laid out in six primary divisions. Upgraded in recent years, the farmyard features a range of slatted and loose-bedded housing, extensive outdoor handling facilities, machinery shed and seven stables. The four-bedroom bungalow residence was also meticulously refurbished and presented in excellent order.
