Kill remains high but price under pressure

Beef prices remain under pressure, with factories reducing base prices for steers to €3.70/kg to €3.75/kg, while heifers are being quoted a base of €3.80/kg to €3.85/kg. A high kill is helping factory purchasing power. Last week’s kill rose to 37,771, an increase of 318hd on the previous week. Steer throughput fell by 980hd but it was compensated for by higher numbers of dairy cows being culled.
