Kioti MEC2210

Specification

The Kioti MEC2210 was the only UTV on test that is not manufactured in the USA. This Korean-built UTV is imported into Ireland by PJ Callan Ltd of Ardee, also importers of Kioti tractors. The MEC2210 is a high-specification, fully EC-homologated UTV, which means it is fully road-legal with lights.

Powering the Kioti is the firm’s own three-cylinder diesel engine matched to a two-speed belt-type CVT transmission. Gears, four-wheel drive and rear differential lock are all selected manually via dash-mounted levers. Seating is split on the Kioti with a dedicated seat for the driver and a bench seat for two passengers. Weather-proofing is provided by a Perspex plastic-type windscreen and canopy on top of the cab frame. There is no wiper; it would be a requirement for Irish users. The test machine had an optional hydraulic tipping body. The body was the largest of all UTVs on test.

Driving

Seating position on the Kioti MEC2210 was the highest of all UTVs on test but also the most comfortable from a driver’s point of view. The Perspex window was difficult to see out through when the sun was shining and, with no wiper, impossible to see through when wet from our tests. It would, however, be cheaper to replace.

Time trial

The Kioti MEC2210 took the longest time of all the UTVs to get around the course, struggling a bit for power. With high ground clearance, even loaded, it did not have any issues with the terrain and was extremely comfortable.
