Following the butterfly lawnmower converted to a slurry scraper we featured two weeks ago, another farmer has sent us pictures of his effort.

Donal Murphy from Innishannon, Co Cork, upcycled an old lawnmower converting it to a yard scraper.

Donal’s daughter Kate says the deck of the mower was broken but there is a perfect engine in it. The fact the engine was working well got him thinking. He used part of an old oil tank to make the scraper with a heavy-duty rubber conveyer belt. So, it cost nothing only a little bit of ingenuity. A simple bar extending from the scraper blade can be used to lift it up and down manually.

Kate says that it will go where no big tractor can travel and commented that it is very nifty in tight corners.

Prior to converting the lawnmower, Donal was cleaning the yards with a tractor and the more difficult to reach places were cleaned manually. Kate says he uses the scraper to clean slurry in all the cattle yards and other yards on the farm. He is delighted with the outcome and hopes other people will get ideas from the setup.
