The LAMMA Show will be staged at a new venue this year — the East of England Showgrounds, Peterborough. The show, which mixes indoor and outdoor displays, has been a popular one for Irish farmers and contractors, as well as Irish farm machinery exhibitors, over the years.

It is a unique event with free car parking and free entry. The show was started 33 years ago by a group of agricultural engineers and farmers.

Since then, it has grown from strength to strength, attracting 900 exhibitors and 40,000 visitors over two days.

More recently, the ownership of the show has changed hands and is now in the control of Briefing Media, the owners of the Farmers Guardian newspaper. This year, it moves to a new venue to accommodate more exhibitors, with an increase in covered display areas.

Cliff Preston, LAMMA event director, said: “The new location is ideal as it will allow for the show’s growth and it will also help us to overcome many of the challenges visitors and exhibitors have highlighted, specifically by making access easier for both exhibitors and visitors.

Despite the continued success and growth, the show will be staying true to its roots.

‘‘Although the location is changing, the fundamentals of the show most definitely are not,” said Cliff.

“We are committed to preservING the unique heritage and the friendly and informal atmosphere of the LAMMA Show. It remains, at its heart, an easy and free-to-attend event for farmers to see the latest agricultural machinery, equipment and services.”

At the top end, John Deere will have its biggest LAMMA display ever, with a huge range of machinery on view.

The show hosts an innovation competition which is sub-divided into three categories to recognise specific contributions to the industry. The winner of the Toplink/NPA Innovation Award at the 2013 National Ploughing Championships, Neilus Murphy with his GrazeMate innovation, will also be taking part in this event as part of his overall prize.

New Holland telehandler

New Holland will unveil an LM telehandler at LAMMA. The company has redesigned the heavy duty 6m to 9m LM range of telehandlers, which claims deliver improved performance, together with premium operator comfort.

The five-model range, which features the LM 6.32, LM 6.35 Elite, LM 7.35, LM 7.42 Elite and LM 9.35 models, can lift up to 4,200kg and has a maximum lift height of 9.1m. The range benefits from in-house design and construction.

New Holland will also be showcasing a variety of models ranging from the CX Elevation combine to the Auto Command range.

The show will mark the beginning of the official celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the opening of New Holland’s Basildon tractor plant and there will be many surprises for visitors who come along to the stand.

There will also be an opportunity to win the use of a New Holland T6 or T7 Auto Command tractor for one year. The winner and nine runners-up will also get a New Holland factory tour for up to five people at Basildon.

Deere widest range

John Deere will have new tractors, sprayers and Gator utility vehicles, plus a new round baler and mower-conditioner, at LAMMA 2014.

New tractor ranges on display are the 4M, 5E, 5M, 6MC, 7R and 8R series, including the latter’s range-topping 370hp 8370R wheeled and 8370RT tracked models. All feature Stage IIIB compliant diesel-only engines.

Two 100hp tractors on show include the 6100MC, which has a more compact design than its 6M series equivalent and is available with an optional low-profile cab for access to small buildings. The 5100M tractor is also available with a standard or low-profile cab and matching front loaders.

Versatile is back

Versatile tractors will be back at LAMMA this year. A new importer, JPM Agricultural, based in Lincolnshire, will be showing the new Versatile DeltaTrack range.

The farm machinery company is an agent for McCormick, Pottinger and McHale and also buys, sells and services Quadtracs.

JPM Agri will have the 500hp model on its LAMMA stand and it will become the company’s British demonstration tractor.

JCB plans for LAMMA

JCB will show its new Loadall 516-40 Agri model with its unique offset single-spine chassis and hydraulic wheel motor propulsion. The handler will lift 1.6 to 4m yet measures only 1.56m wide and 1.8m high.

Among new features is the single-lever proportional joystick control for boom and auxiliary functions, which makes the 516-40 Agri easier to operate.

JCB claims that significant improvements in performance and usability come from the new hydrostatic drive transmission.

It claims to deliver increased pushing power but runs faster.

Low range is more practical for running from job to job in the farmyard, while high range provides decent travel speed over longer distances.

Varispeed has been introduced to regulate the transmission at a slow working pace, regardless of engine revs, and this complements the new adjustable constant-flow hydraulics option for operating a feed bucket, cubicle bedding dispenser or rotary sweeping brush.

The Loadall 516-40 is one of the first machines to be powered by a 37.5kW (51hp) 2.2-litre JCB Diesel by Kohler engine.

JCB will be showing the larger versions of latest skid steer loader models with the JCB Ecomax T4 engine.

JCB claims this engine brings up to 9% improvement in fuel economy and, together with extended air filter service life, it will lower operating costs.

Spaldings sprayer kits

Spaldings will have a new range of ATV sprayers and new livestock range, the rotary sweeper and the double offset topper on their stand.

Spaldings’ new range of ATV sprayers and accessories come with an option of 55-litre to 200-litre units, alongside universal fitting booms and boom-less nozzle kits.

The new rotary sweeper can be mounted on the front or rear of any tractor and has the ability to work with or without the collector and on an angle.
