"Surely a report on how the Ornua PPI effects what our individual co-ops can afford to pay us would be a lot more beneficial." - David Moore, Glencash Farm, Ballyspillane, Midleton, Co Cork.
DEAR SIR: I would like to comment on the constant obsession the Irish Farmers Journal has on the GDT auction, week in, week out. You have columns dedicated to it with just a passing mention on the Ornua PPI. Yes, we are in a global market but Irish products are not or hopefully won’t be dumped on this market.
Surely a report on how the Ornua PPI affects what our individual co-ops can afford to pay us would be a lot more beneficial.
As regards Jack Kennedy’s recent comments about how co-ops must start talking payout/kg MS – we are paid in Kg MS, a breakdown of which is on our monthly milk statement. A better question would be with butter trading at such a strong price, is €2.26/kg of fat enough to be paying?

A breakdown of these figures being reported on would be a lot more beneficial to Irish dairy farmers.
