The future of the sundial in Athy town square has come into question after Kildare county council decided to move it. However Liam Dunne foiled the operation.
IFA grain chair Liam Dunne became a hero on Tuesday after he saved the sundial monument in Athy town square from being moved to make way for a new-fangled tourist attraction of Ernest Shackleton’s ship’s cabin.
The sundial was unveiled in 1994 as part of Macra na Feirme’s 50th anniversary.
Of course Athy is where the first headquarters of Macra was established.

A meeting is taking place on Thursday morning with the architect who is redesigning the layout of the town square.
No doubt the sundance kid will be there to ensure the importance of the monument, and the underlying time capsule, will not be forgotten.
