It is not just in humans where we see sons follow in the footsteps of their fathers. The Dealer was sent in a delightful tale involving a canine son and his old man in one of trialling’s biggest events.
Sweep and Glen, a border collie father and son, have won one of Irish sheepdog trialling’s most sought-after trophies – in successive years. The Irish Farmers Journal Perpetual Cup, presented at Ballyhaunis Sheepdog Trials in Co Mayo each year, was won most recently by Sweep, a young dog owned, bred and run by Peter Concannon, Lecarrow, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo. Sweep’s sire Glen won the trophy the previous year.
