The Irish Farmers Journal and The Irish Field raised the stakes in their Fovember fundraising this week by holding a hot towel shave courtesy of Sam's Barbers and cake sale in the Farm Centre on Tuesday.

Have you recently found yourself surrounded by strange and fantastic pieces of moustachery? Weird goings-on on the upper lip of the male in your life? The Farmers Journal office itself has seen staff members, most notably livestock specialist Darren Carty, CAP specialist Peter Young and Irish Field editor Leo Powell, sporting some interesting upper lip wear of late. There is a reason for all this and that reason is Movember. Movember is an initiative which sees men committing to growing a moustache for the month of November to raise awareness for men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health. The Mo Bros are essentially walking, talking billboards for men’s health and they are sponsored by colleagues, family and friends for the inconvenience of growing a mo. All funds raised go to charity. Throughout November, the Irish Farmers Journal and The Irish Field ran a personalised Movember campaign – Fovember (Movember for farmers). So far, €16,500* has been raised, making us number one in the national rankings. Leo Powell is the number one Movember fundraiser in the country, having raised €11,500* by himself. We’re now in the final week of Movember. Help spread the word and let’s see how much more we can raise. If you’re not going to donate personally, you can still play a part. Just as critical as the funds raised is the awareness generated. Make the efforts worthwhile by going to the doctor yourself and getting a check-up, or encouraging someone else to take action to improve their health. How to donate:
1) Donate to the Fovember team at http://ie.movember.com/team/1664173
