Donal Moloney, Roo West, Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, won the biggest prize of the day at the annual Dungarvan Show, claiming the inter-breed beef championship with the Limousin bull Ardnacrusha Jaguar. This 20-month-old bull is sired by Wilodge Vantastic and is out of Etole. He has compiled a mightily impressive record of prizes this season, having previously taken the overall breed championship at the RUAS spring show in Balmoral and the Cork county inter-breed beef senior bull of the year at Carbery a few weeks ago.

The Ardnacrusha herd also won the reserve championship in the Limousin section with the yearling heifer Ardnacrusha Jasmine.

The reserve inter-breed beef championship went to the overall champion in the Charolais section, Grangewood Jeanie. This heifer was exhibited by Jerry O’ Keeffe, Knocklong, Co Limerick, and was born in April 2014 and is sired by the AI bull Inverlochy Ferdie.

The Simmental championship was won by Garrett Behan, Portlaoise, Co Laois, with the young bull calf Clonagh Hulk Hogan. This calf was born in February 2016 and beat many older and mature animals to take the overall championship in the Simmental section.

Albert DeCogan, Killamuckey, Castlemartyr, Co Cork, added another championship to his ever-growing collection in the Aberdeen Angus section with his senior heifer Mogeely Miylo P291. This heifer was born in January 2014 and also won the Munster provincial trophy in June.

Standing in the reserve spot in the Aberdeen Angus section was the young heifer calf Coolnasmear Electra R450, exhibited by Paul and Thomas Byrne, Dungarvan, Co Waterford.

Local exhibitor and Waterford native Vincent Behan took the championship in the Hereford section with his senior stock bull Dieulacresse Hector. Imported from the UK some years ago, this bull is sired by Westwood Advancer and is out Dieulecresse Delihah.

Trevor Dudley, Dovea, Thurles, Co Tipperary, won the reserve championship with his yearling bull Kilsunny Maximus.

There were no commercial or dairy classes held at Dungarvan this year.
