A total of 123 bulls and 46 heifers headed to Roscrea for one the highlights of the year for Irish Limousin breeders with judging of the bulls taking place on Sunday for the bulls and females on Monday morning.

Top spot for the senior bulls went to Baileys John from well known breeder Thomas Bailey, Batterstown, Co. Meath. This February 2014 born bull is sired by homebred Baileys Darwin and carries five stars for Terminal Euro-star Index, John later sold for €8,800.

Reserve champion was Mullary Jake from Michael Molloy, Dunleer, Co. Louth, this also five star indexed bull is sired by Plumtree Fantastic out of a Millbrook Tanco daughter. Born July 2014 Jake met his reserve and sold for €9,500.

Onto the Juniors it was Carlow breeder Gary Morrissey who claimed top honours with Grangeford JoJo ET. Sired by Ampertaine Elgin, JoJo had won a number of championships throughout the summer including Overall Male Champion at Tullomore. Still to enter sales ring.

Standing second from the top in the Juniors was Wood Road James from Noel Fennessy, Co. Limerick. Home bred on both sides this one goes back to Sympa and Vantastic and carries a Terminal index of €140. Still to enter sale.

Topping the sale so far with just fewer than half the bulls catalogued after entering at €14,000 is Ammaghmore Jumbo. This Haltcliffe Dancer son was bred by Sean Garrett of Ballycastle, Co. Mayo carries five stars for Docility, Carcass Weight and Carcass Confirmation.

Female judging

The female judging seen Ernevalley Ivory come out on top for breeder Eddie Lynch of Loughduff, Co. Cavan. This two year old heifer is by Wilodge Fastrac and is scanned in-calf to five star bull Haltcliffe Gunner.

Reserve championship honours in the female section headed to Leitrim breeder Stanley Richardson for his yearling Newtown Jolene. This five star replacement indexed heifer is sired by Ampertaine Commander out of a Nenuphar dam.
