No progress has been reported in the dispute between the New Zealand breeding company Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC) and representatives of the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF).
High- level discussions this Monday between LIC and the ICBF resulted only in another date being put in the diary for further negotiations next week.
Effectively, it means the position has not changed following the ICBF board meeting last Friday. For farmers considering purchasing LIC semen, the strong recommendation from the ICBF is not to sign LIC contracts.
Eurogene/LIC sales representatives remain in limbo – they don’t have any LIC contracts to show farmers, yet farmers are ringing them enquiring about availability of sires for 2017. It is mainly Eurogene representatives who will be charged with collecting the legal contracts from farmers as soon as semen is delivered to farms.
