Marts have seen the numbers of dairy cull cows passing through rings almost double in the last week.
While some marts have said numbers on offer are in line with last year, in other areas the jump has been associated with low dairy cull sales in recent weeks, driven by strong milk prices.
The majority of dairy cull cows straight from the parlour are selling mainly from €0.90/kg to €1.10/kg.

Continental fleshed cows continue to be a very strong trade.
At the top of the market, cows are still making from €2/kg to €2.15/kg, while the majority of U-grade slaughter-fit cows are selling from €1.90/kg to €2./kg.
R grades and those carrying slightly less flesh are making €1.75/kg to €1.85/kg.
