The head civil servant in DAERA, Noel Lavery, is take up the position of permanent secretary at the Department for the Economy.

He replaces Dr Andrew McCormick who has been appointed to represent NI in the Brexit process as director general of international relations.

Lavery has been permanent secretary at DAERA (formerly DARD) since March 2013 and is being replaced by Denis McMahon from the Department for Communities.

McMahon is currently deputy secretary in the Work and Inclusion Group and was previously permanent secretary at the former Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure.
