ICBF figures have sales data for over 2,800 calves in the past week. Prices are holding firm, with exporters the main driving force behind prices of Friesian bulls.

Jersey bull calves are reported to be selling mainly from €5 to €15/head in many areas and up to €30/head. The main export demand is for calves from €70 to €120/head, while farmer demand continues to be very strong right across the country.

Farmer-type Friesian calves are selling from €150 to €170, with some prices of up to €190 for strong aged calves being recorded. The calves that are coming to the fore are generally young two- to three-week-olds. Angus heifers are selling for €190/head on average, with prices ranging mainly from €170 to €230/head. Bulls are selling for €210/head on average, with prices varying from €190 to €250 per head.
