There will be a changed format and an increased prize fund at this year’s Aldi ABP Irish Angus all-Ireland bull calf championships at Iverk Show.

This year’s prize fund exceeds that of the 2017 show at €23,500.

A change in format sees a further class added to the lineup in a bid to get breeders to bring out younger calves and give them a fairer chance in the final. This class is for bulls born from 1 February to 30 April 2018.

The two older classes will remain, with class A for bulls from the start of August up to the end of October 2017, and the second class for animals born from November 2017 to the end of January 2018.

To attend the final, breeders must qualify their bulls at regional shows such as Bandon, Clonakilty, Gorey, Charleville, Athlone, Longford, Mullingar, Boniconlon, Nenagh, Ballinamore, Tullamore, Cappamore, Roscommon, Swinford and Mohill. Two bulls from each class will qualify and will receive €150 when they attend the final on 25 August 2018 at Iverk Show.

There is substantial prize money on offer in the final, with €2,000 on offer for each winner of the two older classes, and €750 for the reserve. The younger class winner will take home €1,000, with the reserve receiving €500. This prize fund is one of the biggest in Europe and the show is a definite date for the diary for Angus enthusiasts.
