The breakdown of the travel and subsistence costs incurred by the Department of Agriculture staff in 2017 shows that the majority of the expense was in Ireland. Provisional figures show that travel within Ireland cost almost €4.7m.

Similarly 70% of the €495,000 spent on foreign travel was within the EU.

“I can confirm that the audit of the Appropriation Account in respect of my Department is currently underway and once it has been completed, all expenditure items including travel and subsistence expenses will be published,” Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed said in response to a parliamentary question from Mattie McGrath.
