The 15.35 Heuston-Galway train has stopped near Tullamore after striking a herd of cattle. The incident occurred at approximately 4.30pm and passengers remain on the train.
All services to and from Westport and Galway are experiencing significant delays as a result.
Latest updates from Iarnród Éireann have said that staff are on site working to clear the line but that is expected to take some time.

While as of yet there is no official confirmation, it is believed there are injuries to the cattle.
