Chanelle Pharma, the long serving sponsors of the leading trainer award at the Galway Races has announced significant changes in this year’s points system and prize allocation. The prize will be awarded to the trainer who has the most winners over the course seven day festival. In the event of a tie, placed horses will be taken into consideration. In the past the prize was decided based on points which trainers gained for horses placed first, second and third.
Michael Burke, managing director of Chanelle Pharma said: “Being a Galway company we have a very special affinity with the Galway Races. It is the biggest racing festival in Ireland and we are honoured to be associated with it.
Trainers make a significant contribution to the Festival and we feel the new terms of the competition will recognise the most worthy trainer at the end of the seven days of racing.”

There is also a change in the prize money on offer this year. €3,000 will go to the leading trainer and €2,000 will go towards the stable staff in order to recognise the work they put in behind the scenes.
Michael Moloney, general manager of Galway Races said: “It’s a great culmination of the week to see the Leading Trainer and their team awarded this fantastic prize.”
