The south of Ireland Bluefaced Leicester club chose the Teagasc Sheep 2018 event in Athenry last weekend to host its all-Ireland finals. The show saw exhibitors from Tipperary to Donegal travel the distance to compete for the coveted all-Ireland title.

Northern Irish judge John Holden of the Blairmount flock found his champion in the day's ewe lamb class winner from Joseph Scahill. This stylish young lamb held off stiff competition to deliver a first all-Ireland win for the 13-year-old Westport breeder. This February-born double ewe is sired by a stockram and the Athenry event marks her first day out at a show. Having only started his flock three years ago, this is the top accolade the 10-ewe flock has received to date.

In reserve position was Mayo man John Morahan with his shearling ram class winner. Johnhas claimed top spot in the Blue Leicester ring at Tullamore Show for the last two years. Currently running 10 ewes, he also secured top price in Ballinrobe last year with a half brother to the all-Ireland reserve champion. This homebred quad ram will now head to the club's premier sale.
