So far the Hen Harrier Programme has received 1,754 applications in total, figures from the Department of Agriculture show.

Over 1,500 of the applications are valid and 695 people have been offered contracts to date. No farmer has withdrawn from the scheme.

Offers will continue to be made every month.

The vast majority of applicants lie in the province of Munster, with Connacht closely following.

Limerick is the county with the highest number of applications, followed by Clare and then Galway. Seven counties have not submitted any applications to the scheme.
