Straw shortages and prices have reached such unprecedented levels in Wales this year that The Dealer heard farmers want to use gorse as an alternative source of bedding for animals.

Welsh parks are getting on board, with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, saying they’ll supply gorse free of charge to local farmers, as mowing gorse will also help to combat wildfire risk.

Our own parks authority could take a leaf out of their gorse bush.
