The 36th National dairy show took place on Saturday in the Green Glens arena in Millstreet. Once again the show attracted the best dairy cattle from throughout Ireland with a number of high-profile animals in attendance.

This all contributed to making the day even more memorable for the Limerick-based Neville family who secured the overall championship for the first time ever.

Awarded the top placing of the day was the outfit's senior cow Milliedale Dusk Rhapsody. This year-old cow is sired by Scientific SS Dusk while her dam is the EX97 classified cow Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody.

Show-topper

The show topper has produced over 1,000kg of milk solids in her current lactation, having calved back in January. This cow was only purchased last year at the Sterndale and Peak dispersal sale and was also reserve champion at this year's Baileys cow competition.

Ricky Barrett capped off a highly successful day in the final championship. Having come out on top of the Jersey, the Cork native was back on form to secure the reserve supreme championship with his Holstein cow Laurelelm Fever Brilliant.

This four-year-old second-calver is homebred on both sides and was intermediate champion at the event last year. Classified VG89, Fever Brilliant is currently giving 40 litres having calved back in April.

This stylish young cow was also this year’s Tullamore Show champion.

This year’s Baileys cow champion Drumlin Attwood Megan had to settle for honourable mention on Saturday.

Owned by the syndicate of Boyd, Grennan, O’Neill, Timlin and Moore, the five-year-old produced over 12,000kg in her last lactation.

This modern cow was reserve champion at the show back in 2016 also.
