Padraig Kehoe scooped the top prize at an awards ceremony held at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin.

Wexford farmer Padraig Kehoe has scooped Bootmalt’s top prize for his malting barley at the 2018 Irish Malting Barley Excellence Awards.
“It’s a great honour to win this title,” Kehoe said.
“I am looking forward to bringing the Guinness Perpetual Cup to Wexford, knowing that I join the list of talented and skilled barley farmers who have held it since 1954.

Guinness connection
The awards, held in the Guinness Storehouse on 6 November, are organised annually by Boortmalt and this year’s prize cup was awarded by Pat Deering TD, chair of the joint Oireachtas committee for agriculture.
Quality barley has always played an important part in the brewing of Ireland’s trademark Guinness draught and Aidan Crowe, the operations director at Diageo’s St James’s Gate Brewery said: “At Diageo, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of sustainable brewing and supporting Ireland’s agricultural sector.”
