Over 2,000 townlands will be eligible for Area of Natural Constraint (ANC) payments for the first time in 2019.

Some 95,000 farmers received €227m in payments this year under the scheme, and this figure is due to increase to €250m next year.

Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed confirmed that 98% of currently eligible townlands will remain eligible, with an additional 2,000 townlands included in the new maps. In the region of 700 townlands will lose out in the scheme.
