Three agri-food companies have been named on the most recent national priority list for enforcement by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA).

Glanbia Food Ireland Ltd, Rosderra Irish Meats and the Queally brothers-owned Arrow Group were listed on the quarter-four list for 2018.

“The eight sites represent less than 1% of industrial sites licensed by the EPA, but account for 41% of complaints and 11% of open compliance investigation files,” the EPA stated.

It added the main causes of non-compliance were due to odour and noise issues and failing to adequately manage wastewater discharge.

LacPatrick Dairies

The EPA told the Irish Farmers Journal that both LacPatrick Dairies in Co Monaghan and Western Brand Group in Co Mayo had been removed from the priority list.

"Lacpatrick Dairies was on the national priority site list due to issues relating to breaches of emission limit values in wastewater discharge and inadequate measures for the protection of surface water," the EPA said.

"The licensee has implemented corrective actions at the facility both in terms of management and infrastructure to address the issues and compliance has improved. A summons has issued against the company and the case is before the court."

Western Brand Group operates a poultry processing unit and had been found to be in breach of emission limit values to water.

The EPA stated that a summons had been issued against the company and the matter was before court.
